Introduction
Andrea Vesalius, a man known for dissecting bodies of dead criminals for the study of anatomy, made amazing discoveries on the human body. What is known about his childhood, adulthood and many achievements? What came before he was known as ‘The Founder of Modern Human Anatomy’?
Childhood
Not much is known about Andrea Vesalius's childhood, though we do know about his education. Historians know that Andrea Vesalius was born on December 31, 1514 in a place called Brussels which is now Belgium. Andrea was born into a family of doctors and pharmacists. In 1528 at the age of fourteen he began school at The University of Leuven, there he studied the theories of Galen, another anatomist who made many theories on the human body though not all were true. Andrea was determined to separate the facts from fiction . Not long after, Andrea entered the University of Paris to continue his studies of anatomy. After that he entered the University of Padua and graduated. After three universities he was ready to fulfil his life ambition to be an anatomist .
Adulthood
Vesalius was a Flemish physician and an anatomist who made multiple contributions to the study of human anatomy. Andrea was offered the Chair of Surgery and Anatomy after graduating. Andrea’s first job was lecturing people about anatomy. At age 23 he became a professor of surgery and anatomy and he always had students check their findings to make sure they separated fact from fiction and to make sure they had all the information. He occasionally dissected the bodies of dead criminals for the study of human anatomy. Andrea died on October 15, 1564 in a shipwreck. Andreas Vesalius greatly assisted the study of human anatomy.
Acheivments
Andrea Vesalius achieved many amazing feats in his life. He made many discoveries on the human body. In 1543 Andrea wrote a book called On The Structure of The Human Body and performed surgery. Vesalius made countless discoveries on the human body. For instance he discovered that nerves are not hollow and they send electric pulses to the brain not the heart. Andrea found that the uterus does not have two parts and disproved the theory that men have less ribs than women. Andrea also discovered that the heart is not a muscle, the human sternum is made up of three parts and the mandible has one bone. Andrea Vesalius made groundbreaking discoveries that made an impact on our world of anatomy.
Conclusion
Andrea Vesalius was one of the most amazing scientists when it came to the human body. He inspired people to check their findings instead of guessing. .Without him we would not have the information about anatomy we have today. An amazing man until the day he died , Andrea Vesalius changed the way we see human anatomy. To this day we still use the theories of Andrea Vesalius, ‘The Founder of Modern Human Anatomy’.
